The Museum of Hartlepool takes access to our site seriously. When exploring the Museum, all internal areas are easily accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
There are several toilets on site including disabled facilities. Baby changing facilities are also offered. Those in need of a wheelchair can request one on the day – please bear in mind we have limited availability. We offer free on-site parking including disabled parking as well.
Sometimes the Museum can be busy, noisy and dark.
The Museum is on the outskirts of Hartlepool Town Centre, alongside Jackson’s Dock. The Museum is a short 15-minute walk from Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.
Hartlepool train station is an 8-minute walk from the Museum, involving a slight incline on the bridge over the railway lines.
Several busses stop on Marina Way just outside the Museum, these are Stagecoach Hartlepool 1 and 7, Stagecoach Teesside 36, Arriva Durham 23 and 24 and Go North East 55 and 55X Accessible parking.
There is a large car park alongside the Museum with 8 accessible parking bays and a dropped kerb to the entrance of the Museum.
The entrance is signposted as the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Hartlepool, however this is also the entrance to the Museum of Hartlepool. After you go through the entrance doors turn right, then right again, the Museum is straight ahead.
The main entrance has two sets of double doors. There is a push-button on the left-hand side of the outer doors and the right-hand side of the inner doors. The doors open towards you. The entrance to the Museum has a set of manual double doors however they will be held open during opening hours. Immediately inside the entrance is the shop and reception desk for the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
Admission to the Museum is free.
The Museum is all on one level. Seating is available throughout the Museum.
There is an accessible toilet within the reception area, close to the Museum entrance.
The facilities in the ground floor toilet include a baby change station. It is not RADAR key operated. There is no Changing Place facility within the Museum however there is one in the Museum car park, close to Marina Way, located at Marina Way, Jackson Dock, TS24 0XZ.

A wheelchair is available to borrow during your visit. Please speak to a member of staff.
The Museum does not currently offer relaxed openings. However we have identified the following times when the Museum is usually quieter with fewer visitors: 3 to 4 pm in winter and 4 to 5 pm in summer. This is not a dedicated relaxed session and we cannot guarantee the low level of visitors.

There is not a café on-site, however, there are several places outside of the Museum selling hot and cold drinks, snacks and meals. Picnics are not allowed on-site, however, the Museum is alongside Hartlepool Marina with many seats available for picnics.
